Job Description:

Sales and Operations Planning Manager is responsible for managing the development, implementation, and ongoing business support of Caterpillar's global rental machine planning processes and systems.  Also, responsible for leading process improvements for Rental Sales and Operations Planning, Annual Business Plan Forecasts, PINS reporting, Dealer S&OP reporting and  Long Term Forecasts.

Manage a support staff of two direct report employees and support global rental sales execution teams for critical corporate planning processes including monthly sales and operation planning, prime product forecasting, executive production scheduling, and long-term forecasts.  Ensure that planning processes are stable and executed in conformance to corporate requirements and planning timetables.  Provide ongoing business and process support to worldwide user base.  Support the sales and operation planning and demand management processes for the rental team.  Provide special analysis and information support as needed.  Identify emerging trends and provide analysis to support timely business decisions.

The position manages a work unit of primarily management/professional employees where monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required as well as training, developing and mentoring.  The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

Typical internal customers include various contacts throughout Caterpillar worldwide and its subsidiaries.  The position often confronts complex issues or problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis.  Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches.  The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions.  The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.  Impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Process Quality, etc.  

Basic Requirements:

  • The position requires a college or university degree in Accounting or other business related field.
  • 9-12 years of progressively responsible job-related experience.
  • The position requires thorough knowledge of sales and operation planning processes including machine sales forecasting, rental metrics and possess business intelligence capabilities (Power BI preferred).  

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Power BI experience
  • An understanding of sales and operation planning systems, accountable reporting processes and marketing information systems
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills in order to analyze complex and sensitive business issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions

Moderate travel required (5% - 15% of working time).
