Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:
To lead a Business Unit wide multi-functional team which manages all phases of the NPI (New Product Introduction) process for assigned products.
 
JOB DUTIES:
This position manages the integration and production ramp of new machine models (and associated components) into the CIPL factory for RIOP Product Groups.   The programs can include full programs from strategy to design to production as well as those specifically related to the value chain integration of new models to CIPL (with limited scope design work).  

This position takes responsibility for the overall management of the team, project management of the timeline and the day-to-day resource issues.  The incumbent is responsible for identifying and finding improvement opportunities that exist across each of the different processes and executing strategies to address them.

This position is responsible for identifying and defining product problems and ensuring this is passed to the relevant person within the business to resolve.  Acts as the link between the product teams and the quality process teams.

This position identifies product opportunities and determines technology enhancements, which offer cost/value for the customer.  Directs the activities of the NPI Team and determines the scope of work including costing and pricing, selecting, negotiating, and administering agreements.  

Develops specific plans for program execution and monitors actual performance.  Negotiates changes to programs including cost, price, supplier selection, etc.  Directs changes required due to performance or reliability problems.  Provides input into departmental marketing strategies for assigned products and markets.  Acts as the NPI expert in supporting all project teams.  

The overall manager of these areas takes responsibility for all the areas described above and therefore requires expertise in each of the different fields.  The NPI Program Manager takes responsibility for the overall management of the team and the day-to-day resource issues.  The incumbent is also responsible for identifying and finding improvement opportunities that exist across each of the different processes and executing strategies to address them.

Typical major internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division.  External contacts include various companies who purchase products and services offered by Caterpillar.  The position is challenged to carefully evaluate problems and review a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option.  Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions.  The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan, in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.  Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc.  The position monitors adherence to quality standards and develops action plans for addressing below standard performance.

The position may be required to travel frequently.


BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Requires strong commercial, business, engineering and manufacturing skills along with an understanding of product test & development, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, accounting and pricing functions.  The position typically requires a Bachelors level college or university degree.    In addition, eight to eleven years of progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required.  Must have excellent problem-solving skills and good leadership and team management capabilities.  Requires strong written and verbal communications skills.
