JOB PURPOSE: To analyze economic developments and determine their impact on business opportunities both short- and long- term. Develops forecast scenarios and assesses the risks to the company. Summarize findings in both written documents and presentations to management. In addition, employee will have supervisory responsibilities as a first-line manager.
JOB DUTIES: Reporting directly to this position are Strategy Analyst and /or Strategy Manager positions.
Responsible for one or more geographic regions as well as some worldwide activities (such as engines, parts, commodities or exchange rates).
Follow economic developments in areas of responsibilities and prepare projections of future economic developments. Consider alternate developments and assess respective risks. Explain forecasts in monthly S&OP outlooks, bi-monthly Board outlooks, annual target setting outlooks and long-term assumptions.
Produces economic, industry and market segment studies and other studies and reports as necessary and makes presentations to senior management, regional managers, product managers, dealers and other business units.
Use economic data and company sales systems to develop proprietary models that link economic developments to company sales prospects. Determine the most effective tool (such as regression, time series, or linear discriminators). Monitor and update these systems to ensure the maximum reliability.
Use developed models to help project company sales prospects (such as machine industries, engine sales to users or parts orders). Apply judgment and risk assessments to modify initial projections if deemed appropriate. Explain these forecasts to Product/Industry groups as well as upper management.
Develop and apply stock models in assessing long-term opportunities. Develop cyclical bands around trend forecasts and create alternate scenarios. Present findings to Product/Industry groups.
Follow outside developments in economic theory and forecasting tools to ensure that economic and forecasting tools incorporate the latest research.
Serve as a Green Belt or Subject Matter Expert on 6 Sigma projects requiring economic expertise.
Coordinate major studies and projects in conjunction with other Strategy and Business Development divisions.
Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties as assigned.
This is an entry supervisory level position. Limited travel is required (0 –5% of the time).
