Description
This position (Plant Metallurgist) functions as the core node of metallurgical technology in the ACM Gears facility. The position will frequently interact with many functional groups both on-site and off-site, e.g., Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EH&S, Design Engineering, Advanced Materials Technology, Global Purchasing, Accounting, etc. The Plant Metallurgist is the single point of contact for all metallurgical / materials issues at the facility.
A successful Plant Metallurgist will have the ability to use technical metallurgical information to influence business decisions. Technical decision-making and analytical skills are also crucial. This position sets the overall strategy and direction for all metallurgical programs in this facility, including budgeting, cost saving and continuous improvement initiatives, quality, approving R&D funding and direction, metallurgical supplier interactions, supplier development, business resumption planning, and others.
In addition to these responsibilities, the position is a supervisory position with multiple direct reports. The position has a staff of approximately 12, with a strong interaction with the metallurgical laboratory, heat treat engineering. Operational and HT Maintenance responsibilities will overlap into this role, but do not directly report to this position. The Plant Metallurgist will also be responsible to develop and maintain the succession planning and new recruitment strategy for all metallurgical resources in the facility.
The Plant Metallurgist may be expected to travel to the US-midwest for extended periods of time (2 weeks continuous or longer) for an initial training period.
