Managing a team of Project Leaders, Senior Inventory Analysts, Advanced Inventory Analysts, Inventory Analysts and salaried clerks.
Providing guidance to Logistics Division General Managers, Client Operations Managers, Consultants, Project Leaders, Account Managers and a variety of middle and upper level client management reporting on inventory and customer service (IM Service Loss reporting, AtT tasks, IM activities).
Directs inventory staff to develop and publish critical IM analysis and reports that helps achieve customer service (fill rate levels) by managing inventory levels for Aftermarket Parts network. Functions include providing detailed analytical support on new product support, working with client sources of supply, expediting material and advising and directing Logistics division/client management teams on initiatives to improve inventory and customer service performance. Required levels of customer service and inventory are specified in Logistics Division/client services contracts and are guaranteed by Logistics Division.
Leads IM Analytics team to support client teams in achieving specific objectives related to customer service/ inventory management - such as improving inventory turns by a specific amount, improving the time to process client's customer emergency orders, or improving fill rate on new model parts. Requires collaboration with other managers throughout the broader organization, including Materials Managers, Inventory Control Managers, Systems Managers, Sales Managers, Directors, Senior Management and client customers, as well as managers throughout Logistics Division. Inventory Management expertise is one of Parts Distribution Division's primary strengths in the marketplace, which differentiates Caterpillar from its competition. Incumbent plays a key role in maintaining this strength and delivering this service and expertise to internal clients and extended collaboration with dealers.
Supports/directs IM research and simulation studies to determine contractual levels of customer service and inventory that are specified in Logistics Division/client service contracts. From simulations, inbound and outbound material volumes are established to determine the size and type of warehouses, and the required modes/type of transportation. Simulation results identify fill rate and inventory turn performance guarantees that Caterpillar offers to clients. This work is critical to Aftermarket Parts Division growth and profitability. Simulation studies require in-depth knowledge of Caterpillar developed computer simulation model, ability to interpret data generated by the model and ability to analyse client provided data which is input to the model. Explains the process and simulation results to client administrative management in both marketing to new, potential clients and to develop and implement strategies for current/signed clients.
10-12 years of progressive job related experience, prior experience in Parts Distribution Inventory Management, is desirable.
Extensive parts distribution and/or logistics related experience, including staff and supervisory assignments, is desirable.
Requires a college degree in engineering, math or related field, advanced educational degree in Inventory Management, Operations Research, Statistics or related field will be an added advantage.
Experience in the analysis of logistics functions (i.e., parts distribution operations, inventory management, IM research, transportation planning, etc.).
Ability to apply education and experience to solve supply chain problems.
