The Caterpillar Product Support and Logistics Division has an exciting opportunity for a Warehouse Associate Team Leader, located in Champaign, IL.


As a Warehouse Associate Team Leader at Caterpillar, you will assist the Supervisor/Foreman in coordinating workflow, promoting cooperative team relationships, establishing daily priorities, etc., and you will also be performing various warehousing functions at a CLS warehouse/distribution facility.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating workflow

  • Promoting cooperative team relationships

  • Actively promoting safe work practices and procedures

  • Establishing daily priorities, providing feedback to supervisory team on Associate performance

  • Performing and/or coordinating the training of Associates on work techniques and promoting continuous improvement.

  • Assists the Supervisor/Foreman in: performing the material handling and warehousing functions required in inbound, outbound and other operational functions.

  • Working from a variety of source documents to verify quantities, count parts, fill orders, package parts, etc.

  • Using machines for weighing, banding, wrapping, packaging, stenciling, etc.

  • Maintaining related records or reports as required and resolving discrepancies where needed

  • Operating computer terminals to access and update information for receiving, counting, and order processing

  • Performing and assigning housekeeping functions; using mobile equipment as required facilitating job functions

  • Reporting defects and need for repairs on mobile equipment by following safety procedures

  • Assisting the Warehouse Associates in resolving various work related issues.

Safety related Duties

Deliver training to new hires and existing employees on safety and onboarding materials

Deliver training in the ‘Simulated Work Environment’ to support new hires and existing employees

Manage Safety Continuous Improvement (CI) Cards: review ideas and solutions with the originator and the respective supervisors

Heavy involvement with incident reports. (Investigations, assisting with writing reports, post incident follow ups etc.)

Equipment training & Retraining (refresher)

Being the eyes on the floor and stopping to fix safety infractionS

Involvement in huddle examples (Demonstrations on how to properly handle pallet, three points of contact, Halo rule, Safety Stand downs, etc.)

Touch points with new hires on questions, Safe Job Procedure (SJP) review, initial safety walk review (Shelters, Fire Ext, Take cover)

SJP revisions

Standard Work revisions

Safety recognition thumbs up

Manage required safety training classes and deliver content

Daily PID discussion with Execution Section Managers

 

Quality related duties

Ensure quality gate(s) are being used per established process.  Be visibly present on the floor

Train associates on BIQ (Built in quality) gate processes

Take ownership of documenting all defects for each gate (Check in, Storage, Pull, Schedules, Kitting, other areas as needed)

Research defects and their validity

Log all defects into BIQ logs

Assist with defect RCCA’s (Root cause corrective actions)

Assign owners to all logged defects

Spend time at each gate daily to ensure the process is being followed properly

Assist team leads and section managers as needed in coordinating activities of quality gate(s)

Other related job duties as needed

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Willingness to deliver training to new hires and existing employees
  • 6 months plus of warehouse and/or order filling experience

  • Ability to frequently lift and carry material weighing up to 35 pounds for intervals of 15 to 30 minutes

  • Ability to read/write and interpret documents

  • Ability to perform a variety of record keeping and reporting functions


Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Ability to work independently on a computer and basic software systems (ie Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Prior knowledge of various warehouse management systems

  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast paced team environment

  • Prior experience in a front line leadership role

  • Prior experience with Material Tracking System (MTS) transactions

  • Strong Troubleshooting Skills

Position is for 1st OR 3rd Shift (Evenings)

Position is located in Champaign, IL.  No relocation package is available.
