Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division has an opening for a Quality Supervisor/Lead CMM Programmer, located in Seguin, Texas. Your role as a Quality Supervisor at Caterpillar is to contribute to the prevention of product defects by eliminating the cause and maintaining quality standards through inspection and process adherence. This role’s fundamental duty it to manage the end to end operations of the facility’s two Technical Services Labs. Technical Services support staff includes four hourly CMM Operators and one salary PPAP professional.

 
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Interpret engineering drawings to write CMM programs using GD&T principles

  • Interact with other departments, customers and suppliers to articulate and defend Caterpillar’s position regarding CMM data

  • Support internal and external customers using sound metrological theories

  • Interpret GD&T print callouts for Nonconforming write-ups

  • Program parts based off GD&T on blueprints across all inspection machines

  • Discuss correlation issues with suppliers

  • Discuss GD&T issues with other Cat Management

  • Review & Edit Programs as Needed

  • Review prints opportunities with engineering (Tolerances, datum, Targets, etc.)

  • Review and edit other inspection software programs

  • Develop technical expertise of CMM operators to form the Best Team. Internal/External Training

  • Establishes review schedules for product and equipment quality control 

  • Responsible for annual review of Hardware/Software Maintenance Agreements

  • Responsible for annual scheduling and completion of calibration on CMM and PCMM machines

  • Provides support for quality initiatives in facility operations, supplier quality, and materials technology

  • Coordinates acceptance criteria used for conducting capability studies of new machine tools

  • Defines method acceptance criteria priorities, alternative equipment and material certification and recertification

  • Manage supplier inspection correlation related to PPAP sample inspections

  • Reviews PPAP documentation for critical core nucleus parts and provides feedback to GSN, Engineering, and the supply base.

  • Requests PPAP samples during PPAP documentation when applicable

  • This position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • College or university degree in a manufacturing / engineering-related discipline OR 5 years of relevant experience
  • 3+ years’ experience with programming PC-DMIS
  • 3+ years’ experience with GD&T application
  • Expert level Blueprint reading skills and interpretation
  • Solid knowledge of Caterpillar 1E specs and Best practices
 
Top Candidates will also have:
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge/experience with the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Good human relations, interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to communicate across a matrix organization
  • Background use of Hand Gaging and specialty gaging
