Marketing & Branding Analytics uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve marketing challenges for internal and external Caterpillar customers.  The Marketing & Branding Analytics Tech Specialist serves as a consultant and company expert in advanced analytics, contributing his or her expertise to teams tasked with solving complex marketing and brand challenges, assisting in the mentoring of data scientists in the team, and initiating and completing multiple (2-3) independent marketing-related analytic projects.  This individual is recognized as one of the best in the company and recognized externally in the industry for his or her marketing & brand analytics expertise. The principal responsibility of a Marketing & Branding Analytics Tech Specialist is to use his or her highly advanced analytic abilities, marketing & industry knowledge, and external reputation to solve problems for a Caterpillar Business Unit or Service Organization when a team of analysts is either not needed or not available.
At this level, individuals demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature analytic and business judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented problems, determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and arrive at practical solutions for diverse internal customers. Because the individual will be solely responsible for the timely delivery of actionable analysis to a customer, he or she must demonstrate exceptional initiative, judgment, planning and organization, and a knack for innovation.  The individual will also serve as a consultant to other analytic teams or to other Caterpillar Business Units or Service Organizations, and will assist in the mentoring of other marketing research or data analysts, he or she should also possess effective interpersonal, teamwork, and people development skills.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Use of advanced statistical methods knowledge to direct multi-analyst teams in the creation, validation, and application of statistical models
  • Provide marketing analytics assistance to high-profile enterprise-wide projects such as Strategic Improvement Projects 
  • Manage 2-3 research projects concurrently
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.) to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Serve as the principal communicator with clients about the status of their project and the solution developed.
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations for the projects he or she is leading
  • Strong planning and organization skills, excellent initiative, the ability to delegate tasks effectively, and well-honed interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Expected to be active in external industry and analytics professional associations, and is encouraged to develop his or her analytic reputation through conference presentations or research publications.
    • Ideal Candidate should possess sound knowledge on data preparation for analysis in SAS and R or Python.
    • Work exposure on delivering advanced analytics model like Random Forest, GBM, SVM, Text mining knowledge etc.
    • Candidate to have marketing analytics exposure and delivered Attribution Model, MROI, Churn Analytics and Propensity Model etc. (These are advanced analytics deliverable in marketing)
    • Strong understanding and exposure on Digital Marketing


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD  preferably in Marketing analytics, statistics, economics, mathematics or equivalent.  
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analytics, machine learning techniques
  • Must be highly proficient with a statistics package like SAS, R, Python, Minitab, Tableau, Power BI etc. 
  • Good exposure to Next Gen Analytics. 
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Superior accountability, decision-making, initiative, innovation and judgment
  • Effectively communicate quantitative information
Desired Qualifications:
  • Marketing Analytics education background is preferred. 
  • Marketing Analytics education background is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge or aptitude of statistical, data mining or visualization tools.
  • Strong demonstrated leadership skills (previous team leadership is necessary)
  • Program / project management skills are critical
  • Work well in team environment
