The Enterprise Cost & Business Analysis (EC&BA) Business Resource Manager is responsible for providing investment governance and analysis for Caterpillar investments in organic and inorganic opportunities as well as lead the team responsible for enterprise costing methodology and processes. These investments include areas such as New Product Introduction, footprint, aftermarket and services and M&A (e.g. acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and venture capital). This position provides leadership for Investment Governance and product costing procedures including formal approval processes and adherence to enterprise requirements for documentation. This position will report to the Head of of Corporate Development and manage a team of approximately 15-20 people with direct management employees.
This leader exercises due diligence to ensure Caterpillar procedures and processes are adhered to related to investment governance and enterprise costing. They provide partnership, counsel and support to the business Segments and Divisions to support Caterpillar Investment Methodology and product costing is consistently applied across the enterprise.
Key results: Ensuring compliance with Caterpillar Enterprise Procedures and Investment Analysis Methodology, optimization of short and long-term value creation and profitability, a strong enterprise focus to deliver Caterpillar goals, and strong engagement with business divisions to support initiatives
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Providing financial analysis support for M&A activities
Supporting enterprise wide improvement initiatives and providing support
Providing financial analysis support for aftermarket initiatives
Ensuring business proposals align with resource allocation and supports Business Division strategies to maximize Operating Profit After Capital Charge growth
Providing leadership, guidance, counsel and support for all critical finance functions in the business unit including: Monthly accounting and financial reporting
Analyzing and critiquing information for conformance with US and local GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), corporate guidelines and reasonability levels, ensuring financial reporting integrity is always maintained
Managing the Investment Analysis process, which includes the methodology creation and governance for all business proposals (Enterprise Procedure 5:04)
Ensuring a strong and effective internal control environment is in place and adequately documented and tested
Working effectively with various Division CFOs and Business Divisions on investment analysis, business proposals and accounting inquiries
Annual business plan, monthly rolling business management, long term forecast associated with EOR/SRC (Executive Office Review/Strategic Review Conference), volume flexibility planning, and incentive compensation plans
Strategy planning process, including long-term strategic development, quarterly strategic assessments and short-term tactical planning to ensure growth and financial success
Funding, treasury and tax strategy, transaction and issue support
Leading the process for Post Implementation Assessments related to business proposals
Responsible for commercial activities such as purchasing, sales to external customers, working with service providers and/or responsibility for making design changes for customers.
Managing the cost accounting process, which includes the methodology creation and governance for enterprise cost methodology
Leading, developing and training Enterprise Cost Business Analyst team members
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting of Business Administration
Requires a strong background in financial accounting, reporting and analysis, cost accounting, and budget development
Minimum of 13 years’ experience in progressive job-related experience
Strong experience with reviewing financial and cash flow analysis
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific action.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
CPA or CMA strongly preferred
Strong experience involving technical accounting and reporting issues
Knowledge of the Caterpillar organization, its products, policies and procedures is also desired
