Are you looking to join a highly productive team that makes an impact?  Do you want to use your skills to help build a better world?  If your answer is yes, we have an excellent career opportunity for you as an Embedded Software Engineer on the Software Architecture team in our Excavation Division (EXD). 


In this role, work with a global team, leveraging your software engineering skills while building or polishing your architecture development skills to develop embedded systems software that supports the development of machine control applications for Caterpillar’s industry leading excavator product lines.

Specifically, at the Embedded Software Engineer, you can expect to:

  • Use your development skills, product knowledge and practical experience in the design, development and deployment of software solutions for both new and current production machines.
  • Build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software.
  • Develop software requirements, create designs & documentation in compliance with safety regulated software development processes (ISO19014).
  • Develop, integrate, and validate software for EXD’s primary platform using requirements management tools, implementation languages(C), and automation tooling(python).
  • Implement and maintain a continuous integration pipeline.
  • Learn about all aspects of machine software application development and use this knowledge to develop code generation tools to automate the repetitive aspects of development. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate must bring (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in accredited Engineering or Computer Science program or equivalent experience (4 years) relevant to this position.
  • 3+ years' experience with software development.  C programming experience is a must.
  • More than one-year experience with software development processes compliant with Functional Safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills

Top candidates will also bring:

  • Python development experience is highly preferred.
  • Training in Agile software development processes.
  • Experience using and developing code generation tools.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR, Continuous Integration, GIT, and IVY (Dependency Management)
