JOB SUMMARY:

The Data Strategy Manager leads a team(s) of data project managers and data scientists in the areas that can include: establishing, improving, and owning the data strategy; data governance; data project management and execution; establishing data standards for storing, securing, and sharing data; data quality; metadata management; project management; data analysis; data modeling; predictive analytics; forecasting; compliance and/or data science.

Agency/Consulting Headcount: 2-4

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.       Lead team(s) of high performing data scientists, data project managers and projects related to developing business and data solutions.
  2.        Develop, maintain, and execute a multiyear data strategy and integrated roadmap.
  3.        Competent to lead teams responsible for data design, data quality, metadata management, data governance and/or data architecture. 
  4.        Accountable for hiring, managing and mentoring a team or multiple teams of data scientists and data project managers
  5.        Accountable for delivering the annual business plan, tactics, and goals. 
  6.        Prioritizes projects based upon broad based input and business demand.
  7.        Follows general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met and desired results are achieved. Impacts key quality goals including customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, reoccurring revenue, timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, cost savings, process quality, etc.
  8.        Responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates, as well as overall employee satisfaction for the division.
  9.        Develop decision framework for acquisition, adoption, expansion, integration, or retirement of new, existing, or aged data systems in collaboration with the Information Systems team.
  10.        Increase operational efficiency and improve reporting through automation.
  11.        Improve customer touchpoints through automation.
  12.        Use Lean methodology to improve data input processes to fix data problems at the source.
  13.        Evaluate and manage third party data management solutions.
  14.        Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

  2. 12 years or more of experience in data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.)

  3. 5 years of demonstrated experience leading data management or software engineering projects.

  4. Demonstrated leadership on medium to large-scale projects impacting strategic priorities.

  5. Ability to cope with shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving skills.

  6. Ability to effectively prioritize, delegate responsibilities and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  7. Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, and big data analytics.

  8. Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts.

  9. Experience in Metadata Management role within a large corporation preferably high tech or technology manufacturing.

  10. Knowledge of data technology products and components for Big Data and Cloud (AWS, Data Lakes, and similar).

  11. Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.

  12. Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience

  13. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where digital is still evolving as a core offering.

  14. Experience in project management.

  15. Experience using Salesforce and Oracle systems.

  9.        Comfortable working in a dynamic environment.

  10.        Understanding and experience using project management tools like 6 Sigma, Lean, and Agile.

  11.        Understanding of the business model and customer value proposition of a captive finance company, fintech, or bank.
