Job Description


This position works as a conduit between all the Product Groups (PG) and PSLD Aftermarket team. Provide directions to PG, CPI Parts Product Specialists (PPS) and Analysts (PPA) on Inventory Management (IM), aftermarket parts expediting processes in order to release WW CPI programs effectively to the Caterpillar dealer organization.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • To manage various processes related to CPI projects released by worldwide product groups to address quality related issues in the field
  • Provide direction to product groups on IM processes in order to release CPI programs effectively in systems for dealers to fix filed affected units
  • Manages CPI IM mailbox in order to evaluate, analyze and distribute Parts Stock Authorizations (PSA) and Parts Stock Recommendations (PSR) in a timely fashion
  • Institutes process improvements and enhancements involving the tools that CPI IM use. IMT, PVT and PDT as well as input on the myCPI tools that the engineers use to create CPI publications.
  • Works with the CPI core team on any changes to IM related processes
  • Manages the freeze process, this includes placing parts on freeze, removing parts from freeze, staging of material for parts on freeze for future release, releasing orders based on freeze criteria and checking the daily freeze backorder report to proactively see if any orders can be released
  • Delivers new hire training, process training to the group on any changes to the CPI process conducted by the CPI core team.
  • Work with process partners to resolve issues related to engineering releases, supplier capacity, receiving, records accuracy and expediting material from suppliers etc.
  • Position is responsible to ensure that minimum stock levels are in place that meet corporate CPI release criteria for publishing letters in SIS web
  • Position is responsible to achieve corporate CPI parts readiness and inventory management objectives relative to service performance and inventory turns through analyzing of Parts Inventory Management Reports and discussions with internal customers, plants and profit centers
  • Ensures CPI programs are implemented in alignment with the respective Global Product Groups.
  • Investigates inventory management problems encountered, determines causes, identifies possible solutions, discusses with management and implements approved solutions
  • Provides support to the work group with the placement of procurement order schedules, translating expected demand into schedules, understanding facility stocking and distribution concepts
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of parts distribution systems changes and enhancements including the mechanized authorization system, Morton releasing system, source of supply mechanical routines etc along with the ability to answer questions relating to these systems

POSITION IMPACTS:  Incumbent is responsible to achieve PQVC targets across Inventory Level / Turns, point of use Material Availability, Service Loss targets, Parts Procurement targets, Backorder targets, inventory reduction targets and CPI project closure velocity targets.


Required Qualifications:

§  Vast knowledge in all logistics functions which include Purchasing, Transportation, Supplier Collaboration, Materials Availability, Customer Service, Inventory Management, Quality etc.

§  In depth knowledge of all systems and tools within PSLD such as Antares, SPM, Lognet, EDS and HVC etc.

§  Knowledge and understanding of 6 Sigma & CPS project management principles

§  Knowledge of the overall Enterprise CPI process

§  Knowledge of the FDO/CPRO process

§  Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills 

§  Solid product & parts knowledge

§  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus

§  Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, especially those with supplier impact

§  Solid supply chain planning, demand and orders, logistics and manufacturing knowledge

§  Ability to mentor work group on day-to-day basis

§  Highly developed organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multitask

§  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Maths / Science / Commerce

§  Must be willing to work in US/Europe shift timing


Desired Qualifications:

§  APICS CPIM or CSCP certification

§  In depth knowledge of all systems and tools within PSLD such as Antares, CPI Inventory Management Tool (IMT), CPI Parts Visibility Tool (PVT), SIS etc.

§  Knowledge of Caterpillar product structure and organization of Caterpillar parts information and technical information databases

§  Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point and computer software

§  Good analytical and presentation skills

§  Ability to read and understand engineering documents and prints
