Job Description


As a Digital Content Specialist this position will have the opportunity to be part of the highly engaged product team responsible for Caterpillar’s digital portfolio of Equipment Management solutions.  This role will have responsibility for the authoring of world class digital content that supports our customers use of and our field facing team’s ability to support our digital solutions. It will work closely with our engineering, product, internal business units and marketing teams to define, create, and deliver technical, functional, and training related content.  Success will be measured by the impact the content has on improving our product support teams ability to support our solutions, the impact is has on improving our field facing team’s ability to sell and support those solutions, and ultimately the impact it has on improving our user’s ability to realize business value from our digital equipment management solutions.


The Digital Content Specialist will consult with consult with product owners, product support, internal industry & marketing teams, dealers, and customers to define supporting content requirements for our digital equipment management solutions. This includes the development of training content and the delivery of this content to our internal field teams.  It will require not only a strong understanding of best in class content creation and delivery execution but also a deep understanding of the digital solutions, how they work, and how they create value by enabling greater asset uptime, increased utilization, online leads, attributable sales, and support activities across the full equipment lifecycle. 


Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration across multiple engineering, product, and marketing teams on the development of digital content strategies and execution
  • Participate as a core member of product/feature development teams to define technical content, functional content, and training content needs
  • Authoring of technical and functional content for digital equipment management solutions
  • Development of training content for new and existing products in multiple media formats including web-based knowledge articles, FAQ documents, how-to guides, videos, virtual learning webinars, etc.
  • Delivery of instructor-led and virtual training to internal field facing teams
  • Own and develop writing guidelines and standards for training, support, help content, and digital product copy.
  • Direct accountability for increasing competencies related to support, sales, and use of digital products through the digital reference and training content.
  • Consult with internal process partners, customers, and dealers as a recognized expert in the digital technology space by leveraging in-depth product experience



Basic Qualifications:

  • 4 years of technical and/or functional content authoring experience or other equivalent job experiences.

  • 4 years of experience in IoT, digital, and/or equipment management products, product applications, and services

  • Experience in the development and delivery of digital/technology training content

  • Good human relations skills to develop a cooperative work environment with others inside and outside the department along with strong written and spoken communication skills with a variety of audiences.

  • The individual should have solid process management skills to understand the design to authoring life cycle of projects.

  • The individual should be creative in providing solutions for the web experience.

  • The individual should be able to develop others in working with a team of other content contributors.


Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Organization and self-driven to determine the appropriate approach to the content authoring needs for each of the requests.

  • Knowledge of role digital solutions play in bringing value to customers, dealers, and internal process partners

  • Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, analytical / critical thinking skills

  • Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously

  • General understanding of NPI, technology product development, and training related processes
