Do you have a passion for the impact digital technology is having on the world today and what it looks like tomorrow?  Do you get excited about leading a team that operates on the cutting-edge in Autonomy and Automation solution design and development for the jobsite of the future?  If so, the Construction Digital and Technology (CD&T) team at Caterpillar has an exciting opportunity for you to join the team as an Automation and Autonomy Technical Leader.  CD&T helps enable digital transformation at customers’ jobsite, improving site-level productivity, safety and equipment management.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to use your knowledge, experience and leadership to join CD&T and help develop & deliver on a multi-generational product roadmap in the following areas within the Construction Industries segment:

 
  • Cat Productivity modules that track, manage, optimize and automate customer production processes.
  • Remote Cat Command Station & Consoles
  • Site-level Autonomy
 

CD&T leads Construction Industries in defining Market Requirements, managing New Product Introduction Program execution, owning site-level product development, facilitating customer site integration and providing ongoing maintenance & support.  Your team will work with the Construction Industries and the Resource Industries segments’ machine product groups as well as internal and external development partners to deliver autonomy at the customer site level.

 

In this leadership role, the Construction Industries Site Automation and Autonomy Technical Manager will lead the development and maintenance of the site-level Automation and Autonomy products for Construction Industries.  Specifically, the incumbent in this role will be expected to:

 
  • Provide overall technical product leadership across Caterpillar Construction Industries on site level autonomous systems leading his/her team of site system engineers and cross-enterprise autonomy team members
  • Define and manage site-level Automation and Autonomy product technical strategy based on commercial strategies, application knowledge, industry trends, technology megatrends, and machine, sub-system, and component strategies
  • Represent the technical Product and Platform workstream within the New Product Introduction (NPI) team
  • Own, define and manage technical and product requirements for site-level Automation and Autonomy solutions
  • Lead concept design, product development, support solution delivery and ongoing site-level maintenance for Automation and Autonomy site system products
  • Hands-on leadership for a cross-enterprise agile team focused to deliver targeted Automation and Autonomy solution(s)
  • Lead product development and maintenance throughout the product life-cycle including New Product Introduction program technical execution and delivery, site-level simulation and HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop)/SIL (Software-in-the-Loop) verification, product validation, releasing and design control of products, manufacturing support, Continuous Product Improvement, and product maintenance and life-cycle support
  • Meet New Product Introduction program metrics based on timelines, budgets, quality targets, functional requirements, alignment with regulatory requirements, and performance expectations
  • Apply good business acumen to make trade-offs between customer requirements, business constraints, and technology capabilities
  • Actively pursue alignment, commonality, and re-use of Automation and Autonomy components, sub-systems, and systems between Construction Industries and Resource Industries.
  • Manage annual budgets and program life-time forecasts related to New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs.
  • Foster global team collaboration, communication, and innovation.
 

Qualifications

The successful candidate must bring (Basic Qualifications):
 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum.
  • At least 12 years’ experience relevant to this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead product development through large matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate extensively across the enterprise and deliver solutions utilizing complex and new technologies.
  • Experience executing projects requiring in-depth technical analysis or applying analytical processes to solution development.
  • Previous experience involving machine development and/or machine control systems.
  • Previous experience in Construction, Agriculture, and Automotive Industry Systems Development.
