As a Category Purchasing Manager at Caterpillar, you will have the opportunity to serve as an industry expert for the Undercarriage category. You will manage strategic breakthrough categories to deliver year over year Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management performance improvement and therefore create value through an improved supplier network.  Deliver global leverage and supply network market knowledge to product organizations for incorporation into future designs & supply design collaboration events

This role is accountable for the development, communication and implementation of a worldwide sourcing strategy for the Undercarriage category. Manage supplier performance, relationships, and agreements/contracts for the category; while collaborating with Facility and Product Supply Managers to create a competitive advantage for our customers and the enterprise by developing, optimizing, and integrating a world-class supply network.  Responsible for the category liaison with the corresponding functional areas within the Enterprise. The position will require strong negotiation skills, comprehensive understanding of supplier capacity planning, category management as well as business acumen.  

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, optimizing, and integrating a world-class supply base
  • Identifying performance gaps within the supply base and developing improvement plans for the identified gaps

  • Managing a high performing team of supplier development engineers and purchasing professionals

  • Project management for category strategy alignment with the Undercarriage Enterprise Component Strategy

  • Maintaining highest ethical and professional standards within the diverse global organization and recognizing employee excellence


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business, Engineering, or Supply Chain.

  • Global sourcing knowledge and experience
  • Complex strategic relationship management experience
  • Knowledge of Quality and Cost Modeling tools
  • Previous project management experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management
  • Previous 6 Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt or Sponsor experience
  • Previous procurement experience including RPM
  • Previous Engineering experience including NPI/APQP
  • Previous Supply Chain experience

This position does not offer relocation.

This position requires 25% or less travel.
