Join the team that helps build a better world. We’re looking for a sharp, communications – savvy intern to assist the Energy and Transportation (E&T) Purchasing business division with internal communications projects.

About the Job:  Communication interns are placed in one of our business divisions and work with fun, energetic teams and leaders to develop internal and external communications. Caterpillar interns are challenged with real world projects and assignments that add value and develop professional skills. As the E&T Purchasing Communications Intern, you can expect to:

  • Assist with internal communication strategies and vehicles

  • Collaborate with leaders to write and edit compelling feature stories for monthly reports

  • Create internal employee surveys

  • Maintain and update the SharePoint site

  • Maintain distribution lists for internal employee communications

  • Leverage and embrace technology and visual communications to provide new and creative ways to explain the E&T Purchasing strategy to our audiences

  • Assist with special projects as needed, including video, presentations and more


This position is part time and temporary, maximum hours per week are 32.  Likely hours are 20-25.  Time worked will be primarily during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8A-5P).  Specific days and times will be agreed to by the work director and chosen candidate.

Internship Program Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time, four-year accredited college or university or graduate school in one of the following degree programs: communications, marketing or business

  • Minimum 3.0/4.0 Cumulative GPA (no rounding)

  • Expected graduation: December 2019 and beyond

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 tools: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Stream, Teams, etc.


Top candidates will also have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Previous internship experience in communications, marketing or business

  • Visual communications experience; proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
