Job Duties: This role serves as a Transportation Buyer supporting multiple modes of Ground Transportation Procurement for Caterpillar in North America. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage transportation procurement of Cross-Border freight moving between Mexico and the U.S.
  • Collaborate with other Transportation Procurement Buyers who manage North America Truckload, Open Equipment, LTL, Drayage, and other transportation modes
  • Work with internal customers to understand and support their transportation needs
  • Understand, follow and document department processes and guidelines as well as Caterpillar’s Purchasing Procedures
  • Provide project management for sourcing projects in excess of $50 million USD
  • Comfortable gathering, interpreting and presenting data to high-level management
  • Drive analysis for sourcing events
  • Recommend and gain approval for bid award solutions
  • Support development of carrier and mode strategies
  • Collect benchmark rate information and analyze market supply and demand conditions
  • Manage daily rate information requests with suppliers
  • Manage daily spot quote requests using applicable systems
  • Update supplier contract rate files
  • Understand and update information in procurement and TMS systems
  • Resolve invoice billing and rating issues
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of contractual documents such as Master Services Agreement and Statements of Work


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 years), preferably in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Business or Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in Logistics areas (Transportation and/or Supply Chain)
  • Bilingual – Fluent in both written and spoken  English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge with transportation operations including customs paperwork requirements for imports or exports into Mexico
  • Experience working with web based or platform systems (such as MRP's, TMS, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of data such as contractual cost elements
  • Flexibility to work on and off shift hours
  • Display a high degree of personal initiative, accountability, teamwork and customer focus
 Desired qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (or international equivalent) from an accredited university
  • 6 Sigma/Lean Experience
  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management (eg Certified Purchasing Manager CPM, Certified in Production and Inventory Management CPIM, Certified in Integration Resource Management CIRM, or comparable international certification)
  • Understanding of purchasing processes and sourcing tools
