Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) product teams deliver world class products across commercial and machine markets that bring the best value to our customers while achieving business commitments.  We are currently looking for a Group Manager to join our talented team in Pontiac, Illinois.  In this role you will direct production in the heat treating and cleaning of quality parts to meet established production requirements, be responsible for establishing the vision, mission and strategic sourcing plans to ensure profitability while attaining objectives in customer satisfaction, quality, pricing, inventory and distribution for large engine fuel systems.

 
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage multiple sections and reports to the facility manager
  • Own the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated
  • Perform on-going evaluation of workloads and assists Section Managers in solving problems
  • Contribute to the total manufacturing effort by directing and controlling several operations from fabrication, manufacturing, assembly, test, and shipping
  • Ensure production schedules can be met in a Lean Manufacturing environment to satisfy assembly line and parts schedule requirements
  • Initiates and conducts process improvement dialogs with Section Managers, Team Leads and Team Members
  • Develop detailed near-term and long-term production plans
  • Drive root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, production
  • Execute laboratory practices around safety requirements and quality control

  • Manage analytical techniques including gas chromatography, infrared analysis (FTIR), atomic emission, SEM/EDS, light microscopy used in the analysis of oils/fuels, metalworking fluids, cleaners, and steels
  • Contribute to the overall process and machine fluid formulations, control, troubleshooting, and safety requirements
  • Manage processes used in the manufacturing of precision steel components including grinding, machining, and cleaning

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in an accredited curriculum or 7+ years of experience in Chemistry/Metallurgy Lab
  • Operations Leadership or 5+ years of supervisory experience in operations

Top candidates will also have:

  • Experience in Fuel Systems technology, heat treatment, manufacturing, and assembly
  • Strong chemistry/analytical background preferably related to industrial parts manufacturing processes
  • Metallurgical analysis, Failure analysis, Cleanliness standards and testing, Heat Treatment knowledge and experience

  • Solid management, motivational, organization, problem solving, human relations and communications skills
  • Project Management experience
  • General understanding of the manufacturing processes, organization, products, policies, and procedures
  • General IT understanding
