As a Data Scientist you will support Steel Products by analyzing and validating data with the purpose of driving insights and improvement opportunities for product group alignment and identifying opportunities for growth of advanced improvements. This person would work closely with Caterpillar teams to ensure more accurate data and improved/automated authoring of data.

 

JOB PURPOSE: To develop and provide team support for service data, problem identification and resolution, using quantitative methods such as simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems. The Data Scientist II contributes to this mission by leveraging their quantitative analysis, data management, modeling and/or data visualization skills.


Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to 

  • Gather, develop, document business procedures and guidelines for defining data.
  • Develop and deliver training guidelines for product group personnel to be fully effective in both existing and future systems, visualizations, and applications.
  • Lead transformation and improvement projects of functional support processes and maintaining high visibility to the customers’ goals to consult on process options and head off potential data and reporting problems.
  • Provide team support for implemented solutions and analysis.
  • Analyze large quantities of data from various data sets, recommend solutions, make timely decisions, and communicate effectively with internal teams.
The Data Scientist role has both a lead and participatory role in workshops, depending on subject matter.  Additionally, they are involved in solution design workshops, with valued contribution and responsibility to provide communications.  Incumbents have responsibility to update or develop process documents, along with assisting others in the maintenance of process documents.

Problems and issues faced by this position require careful evaluation and reference to a large number of data points.  Position requires understanding and taking initiative with problems or situations that are unique or may significantly affect business results.  A successful incumbent knows what results must be achieved and must decide how to go about achieving those results. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis and Supply Chain knowledge
  • Must be proficient with MS Office
  • Experience writing programs/queries with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Snowflake, Tableau,   or Alteryx
  • Must be proficient with c#  ADO.net programing language
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL data pipelines and workflows such as SSIS and Snaplogic
Top Candidates Will Also Have
  • Experience with version control such as Git
  • Ability to work on increasingly more complex assignments and will have demonstrated strong leadership, initiative, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience developing dashboards in visualization tools such as Tableau or Power Bi
  • Excellent analytical skills are essential 
  • Experiences with different types of database tools such as DB2 and Snowflake
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as other internal partners
  • Iterative, agile development style to support adapting business requirements
