Job Description




Associate Data Scientist is responsible to support visualization requirements for Logistics functional areas. In particular the role will focus in supporting the visualization needs for the entire "GMM Data Quality Transformation 2.0" program. The position will support visualization to help fix missing data quality resulting in missed/late shipments, missing track & trace, inefficient freight management and payment, material non availability and production outages. This position is located in Bangalore and reports to the Info & Analysis Manager responsible for this area. 






The job duties of an Associate Data Scientist are to support visualization needs in Logistics functional areas. To be successful, an Associate Data Scientist must utilize technical skills as well as soft skills. 


The domain and technical skills are defined in 4 key skills:  Domain (Logistics) knowledge, tool (Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, Linux, VBA) knowledge, data purification & analysis and building required data visualizations. In addition, it is expected that an Associate Data Scientist is knowledgeable about the business domain and can work with the stakeholders to integrate any changes in both requirements and format of visual dashboard outputs to support the overall compliance targets for the team. An Associate Data Scientist is expected to be proficient in two more technical areas (Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, Linux, VBA) knowledge and address issues from a technical stand point.


In addition to technical skills, an Associate Data Scientist needs to demonstrate intermediate to fully skilled levels of the following values based competencies (VBCs):  integrity & trust; building inclusive relationships; customer focus; problem solving; priority setting; and dealing with uncertainty. 


Although the requirements above describe most of the responsibilities of an Associate Data Scientist, due to the breadth of issues that can arise on "GMM Data Quality Transformation 2.0" program, it is sometimes expected that an Associate Data Scientist take on other responsibilities outside of this job description.


Background/Experience (Required):


  • Bachelor degree in engineering, supply chain management, logistics or a related field.
  • Require 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in supply chain or Logistics
  • Proficiency in Tableau, Power BI and related visualization tools
  • Intermediate working knowledge of one of the ETL languages - SQL, SAS programming (PC SAS or Mainframe SAS)
  • Must be comfortable working in MS Office, and industry standard statistics and data visualization packages



Background/Experience (Desired):


  • Introductory working knowledge of Python programming and R programming
  • Introductory knowledge of VBA programming, Tableau and Linux
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.    
  • Good analytical thinker, experience in data analysis and project management, ability to work well in team settings and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time throughout the year.
