This position works with Cat Digital data governance activities and be part of a team of experts with responsibility for improving the quality, use, and management of data and information assets. This position is responsible for commercial management of legal and compliance related processes and tools within the IoT connected product space.  The position will work closely with Legal Services, Risk Management & Compliance, Engineering as well as dealer and customer facing teams within the industry groups.  This role will provide leadership and guidance to ensure legal framework, processes and systems are in place to provide enterprise support for Digital business objectives.



Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Evolve into Caterpillar’s deep expert on data consent, data notifications, and data agreements. Advise teams, engineering, marketing, and others related to data consent and authorizations. Work with teams across the enterprise.
  • Commercial ownership and requirements definition for a new centralized legal consent system that enables integration with downstream applications and other digital tools like subscription management systems
  • Work closely with legal teams to assist in the creation and updating of data consent/authorization processes. Execute customer consent and compliance reporting, as well as coordination with communications teams to provide timely internal and field updates and ensure visibility to changes or updates within processes and systems
  • Manage and monitor progress of ongoing dealer roll-out of point of sale customer consent strategy including transition of global dealers from manual to digital based systems and processes
  • Commercial ownership of dealer and customer data governance and hardware compliance inquiries, properly communicating policy information externally and ensuring quick and accurate resolution
  • Data governance / customer consent and compliance reporting, as well as coordination with communications teams to provide timely internal and field updates and ensure visibility to changes or updates within processes and systems


The incumbent will have responsibility for oversight of a program or effort that has multiple competing and conflicting inputs from various different areas of other business units or business acumen that will need a single capability to meet the needs of all of those areas.  The incumbent must be very organized in creating all of the meetings and communications to insure all interested parties are kept involved of current and emerging status and changes.  This person will have to facilitate meetings in which strong conflicts may arise.  The incumbent may need to facilitate problem resolutions for those conflicts.  Problems and issues have a variety of interpretations, and require careful evaluation and reference to a large number of options.  Incumbent must first identify the nature of a complex or undefined problem and then develop the best solution or application from numerous alternatives.


Incumbent develops well-prepared action plans for the current year and has a clear sense of what needs to be achieved in the year to come.  Position receives assignments that tell what needs to be done and when it needs to be completed.  Incumbent can recommend change practices and procedures to get the desired results.


Required Qualifications

  • Position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 plus years of experience consulting with internal process partners, customers or dealers in digital technology by leveraging in-depth product and technical expertise.

Desirable Qualifications

  • General understanding of IT development and support related processes
  • Experience working with Legal to establish legal policies and Enterprise Procedures
  • Strong execution track record and willingness to take on unique challenges
  • DNPI, NTI, or NPI project experience
  • Understanding of IoT telematics and related end user applications along with a strong command of both verbal and written communications, and strong business acumen.
  • Translate business objectives and their value into prioritized detailed requirements is also required. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead across multiple groups, communicate effectively to influence others inside and outside the work group, and work on large scale complex projects.
