We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as a Purchasing Specialist/Buyer in Peoria, IL.

As a Purchasing Specialist/Buyer, you will provide purchasing solutions expertise, using Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management to deliver maximum value.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible and accountable for development, communication, and implementation of global sourcing strategy
  • Lead strategic sourcing & supply base strategy development and subsequent execution
  • Manage policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special purchasing programs; and supporting specific product line(s) NPI programs
  • Provide leadership for sourcing, logistics and resource management decisions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and new product introduction activities within Purchasing
  • Serve as the primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for commercial discussions/negotiations with suppliers, being the recognized expert for assigned portion of the global category
  • Draft, negotiate, and execute contractual documents including but not limited to master purchase agreements, statements of work, service level agreements, and other ordering documents


Basic Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible job-related experience
  • A manufacturing or operations background, preferably in fabrication, forging, or steel industry
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, or Manufacturing Technology
  • Prior experience is preferred in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering
  • Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skills
  • Working experience in Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing, and demonstrated cost reduction
  • Negotiation skills, able to interpret, analyze and negotiate contractual cost elements
  • Experience with manufacturing cost drivers and/or should cost modeling
  • Effective communicator, in written and oral form
  • Functional leadership

Additional Information:

This position does offer relocation
This position requires 10% or less travel.
