The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a Data Analyst in our Lafayette, IN facility.

  

Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

   

Lafayette Logistics Center strives to provide world class customer service to our customers while controlling cost in ever-changing business conditions.   

  • Use quantitative techniques to solve problems for the logistics business. Typical problems include identifying the cost tradeoffs between staffing and overtime cost; developing KPI metric reports; creating real-time trend monitoring tools to manage productivity within the warehouse; and providing and overview of business strengths, weaknesses, and risks at a glance. 

  • Move from learning and assisting others to learning to contribute independently. The Data Scientist II is expected to be familiar with the company’s processes, products, and organization.

  • Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, learning to consider alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions and developing communication skills.

  • Expect to have several assignments allowing them to gain experience on multiple analytical projects. They will be expected to apply theory and concept in the assigned area.

  • Job functions include data collection and analysis; development, validation, application, and refinement of statistical models; and analysis of the output from these quantitative models.

  • Demonstrates an expanded breadth of knowledge and the ability to handle basic analytic issues independently.

  • Demonstrates very good communication skills; above average planning and organization, teamwork, and decision-making skills; a strong concern for customers; and has basic knowledge of Caterpillar Inc., and its products and services.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • An accredited 4-year degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar field with quantitative coursework

  • 3+ years of experience in MS Excel, Access, Word, and Power Point

  • 1+ years of demonstrated experience using data visualization packages like Tableau or Power BI

Top Candidates Will Also Have: 

  • Master’s degree in business analytics or similar field
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Able to work independently and identify opportunities based on analyzing current business conditions
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as with customers.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience at Caterpillar or similar industries
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar warehouse management and ordering systems
  • Portfolio of business insight tools that have led to business results in previous roles
