Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures diesel, gas and reman engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts of power, and key engine systems such as fuel, air, after treatment and cooling which are used to power oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machine applications around the world.


LPSD currently has an opening for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer. In this position you will have an opportunity to develop the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated machines.  In Aftertreatment, we work with metal forming, large fabrication and assembly to serve our customers around the world.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Executing APQP for current product and NPI with the product group bring important design characteristics in control of process on the shop floor through PFMEA, control plans and clear operator instructions
  • Developing, analyzing and managing Manufacturing/ Assembly Projects
  • Coordinating, planning, monitoring and reporting the activities associated with the flow analysis, design, financial modeling and implementation of complex manufacturing group technology cells in an assigned area
  • Work alongside operations to provide work cell and tool design layout to meet capacity required by schedule
  • Assisting in developing department capital and expense projects
  • Training new processors and developing training programs for Processors and Assemblers
  • Engaging in creative problem solving to address operational issues including: ergonomic/ safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, quality concerns
  • Working with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to ensure efficient and cost effective systems and processes to produce quality products
  • Providing the application, procurement, processing, installation and capability of new processes and equipment
  • Designing, developing and implementing the integration of manufacturing systems including factory control software, scheduling techniques, simulation and systems application
  • Providing manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification
  • Coordinating the purchase and application of machine tools, controls and related equipment corporate wide to ensure the latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations
  • Utilizing and fixtures for component set up and manufacturing

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or technical degree in an Engineering curriculum, preferably in Manufacturing Engineering or 5+ years of relevant job-related experience
  • 3+ years of relevant job-related experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Change Management, Engineering Releasing, Manufacturing Releasing, and Process Planning
  • Previous experience with APQP processes

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Sheet metal fabrication experience
  • Must have ability to organize and work within a team environment 
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills
  • MRP systems (SAP, MFG Pro, CAPP+) knowledge
  • Time study/time standard experience
