As a Strategy, Planning and Policy Manager you will serve as a strategic partner across Caterpillar Aftermarket Parts Distribution Division and with business partners including Distribution Services Division, Global Aftermarket Services, and Caterpillar Dealers.  The Strategy, Planning and Policy Manager must develop and lead a high performing team of 10+ individuals with knowledge of end to end supply chain applications across distribution, inventory management, warehouse management, network design, transportation and dealer operations.  

Job Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Strategy development across the Aftermarket Parts Distribution Division including Information Systems, Supply and Orders Management, Inventory Management, Network Solutions, Operations, and Supply Chain Velocity

  • Translate Parts Distribution annual goals and objectives and work with business partners to establish a strategic framework and roadmap towards achieving them with focus on optimizing the parts supply chain and OPACC

  • Define appropriate implementation plans for overall strategy and key projects and provide planning and performance monitoring on an ongoing basis

  • Coordinate and develop department’s annual business plan, monitor and report monthly results, lead the organization through negotiating internal purchased services and achieving improvements

  • Lead a team that develops and deploys global processes and concurrent systems initiatives alongside Parts Distribution, Dealers, and Distribution Services Division

  • Accountable for global parts policy team, the establishment of robust compliance processes, and overall parts policy administration

  • Responsible for supporting Parts Inventory Collaboration and ad hoc dealer requests on warehouse concepting

  • Responsible for set up, test, and training of SMART Sourcing to dealers

  • Manage department resources, provide focus, motivation and encouragement to the team, responsible for coaching, developing and mentoring resources.  Responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of direct reports, including development, capability building and succession planning


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) from an accredited university

  • Extensive experience with strategic planning, strategy development and detailed project plans

  • 10+ years progressively responsible job-related experience in supply chain, logistics or aftermarket parts distribution

  • 5+ years supervisory experience

  • Experience in identifying risk and establishing robust compliance processes

  • Working knowledge of external logistics benchmarks

Top candidates will also have: 

  • Advanced degree

  • Experienced skill set in the principals of change management, strong interpersonal and commercial skills, ability to work across multiple layers across the enterprise

  • Possess strong verbal and written presentation abilities including story-telling, can communicate complex strategic topics in easy to understand ways, mastery of presentation materials

  • Can work on unstructured, complex issues, showing expertise in breaking them down to manageable phases, organizing teams, and driving towards deliverables and recommendations

  • Experience leading a global team

  • Strong leadership skills that can build and maintain a high performing team

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization


    25% Travel required. More travel, for example, when leading a systems implementation outside of the USA
