Caterpillar is experiencing significant growth for the last two years, heavily driven by strong global commodity markets resurgence. However, the demand for talent is also being driven by transformational shifts in business strategies. Growth of aftermarket services along with digital strategies leveraging IoT and other technological advancements is creating demand for talent with new skillsets and experiences. While the company has a strong legacy, there is a strong appetite for external perspectives.

Position Summary:

The Talent Management Manager is designing, implementing and administering talent management processes across the enterprise.  Partnering with our business and HR leaders to help create and sustain a robust talent supply that continues to differentiate Caterpillar. Reporting to the Talent Management Manager are the Succession Planning Analyst and Talent Planning Consultant.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Managing and leading a team of 2-3 within the HR Talent Management organization
  • Driving execution of the Talent Management strategy, integrating best practices/trends and performing analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing talent management processes and programs
  • Effectively executing on talent strategy and succession planning
  • Implementing effective talent segmentation strategies to identify, develop, retain and deploy top-talent its highest and best use.
  • Partnering to implement effective analytics and metrics to inform decisions that help optimize business impact
  • Serving as a key resource regarding talent management best practices as well as current trends and innovative new tools and methods
  • Utilizing HR systems and technologies to effectively manage and analyze talent profiles and trends

Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.



Basic Qualifications:

This role requires experience and a proven track record delivering strategic and innovative Talent Management initiatives and process excellence.

  • Minimum of 6+ years focused in talent management and organizational development, utilizing strengths in change management and project management; including experience with leading high-profile projects, excellent execution of strategies, process improvement, culture and system change, team development, meeting facilitation and design, and communications
  • Minimum of 3+ years managing high-performing teams
  • Significant experience working in a global business with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to innovate and challenge current norms to drive change in the organization and work with people of varying backgrounds and organizational levels
  • A demonstrated ability to multitask, probe, analyze and problem-solve issues with minimal guidance
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to changing structures and priorities
  • Solid understanding of the company’s strategy, its financials, how products and services are produced and go to market.
  • Demonstrates strong operating knowledge of the core talent management areas along with strategic planning, engagement & retention, L&D, OD, D&I, and engagement. 
  • Ability to effectively apply workforce planning and tools that most effectively ensure talent is leveraged at its best and highest use.
  • Professionally credible and demonstrates a track record of success – as judged by the business – in building the organization's talent depth and quality.
  • Advanced analytics capabilities; demonstrated ability to inform, influence and drive results with facts and data
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources or related discipline


Top Candidates Will Also Have:


  • Demonstrated ability to provide creative and non-traditional solutions to OD and HR challenges
  • Master’s degree preferred in Human Resources or related field

The preferred location for this role is Deerfield or Peoria, IL. We will provide relocation packages & services to those that eligible.
