Job Description


As a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer you will serve as an experienced contributor on projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


  • Lead and support simulation projects requiring linear and nonlinear statics analysis, flexbody analysis, and fatigue analysis of Earthmoving, Mining and Construction machine and lower powertrain structures

  • Utilize modern fatigue methods & fracture mechanics to solve fatigue failure problems

  • Perform Nonlinear bolted joint analysis using internally developed processes

  • Perform analysis and correlation of test data measured during on-machine or lab testing

  • Perform structural optimization using state of the art techniques and tools

  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior engineers and colleagues

  • Collaborate with product and design process partners to define analysis needs related to new product development, current product improvement, & cost reduction projects.

  • Interpret analysis results, communicate design improvement recommendations and prepare detailed technical reports and documents for design reviews and archival


Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering 
  • 5-7 years of experience in:

    • Nonlinear static finite element analysis

    • Strain and Stress based Fatigue life calculation methods

    • Frequency & transient dynamic response analysis

    • Abaqus (Implicit/explicit), Nastran, Hyperworks, Fe-Safe

    • Project leadership & management  

Top Candidate will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience in structural and fatigue analysis of machine design systems and lower powertrain structures
  • Proficiency in the use of ANSYS, Dynasty, Datk, Optistruct

  • Proficiency in data acquisition and digital signal processing and analysis

  • Proficiency in popular programing codes

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
