Job Description


As a Senior Design Engineer, you will coach, guide and facilitate the development of a work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, as well as with customers, suppliers and other functional groups to ensure goals are achieved. You will also provide managerial and technical direction in engine installing and cooling product / process design and development.. You will create and maintain an organizational climate / culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement / commitment and a sense of urgency towards business success. 

Job Description:

  • Responsible  for Technical and Value Chain Cost and Performance delivering on Time, Cost and Quality in line with Product group expectations
  • Execute the strategy defined by the Functional Development Manager for engine installation and cooling systems required to meet mining and compactor customers’ technology, product, service, and business needs while incorporating business requirements, manufacturing footprint/strategy and component sourcing footprint/strategy
  • Develop component cost/quality and system cost/quality experts and set cost/quality targets;
  • Ensure integration of experts/specialist in product development activities for new concept development and current product design support;
  • Identify and lead cross product synergies and value chain improvement projects for engine install and cooling systems. 
  • Develop, coach, train, leverage, and manage resident Functional engineers and help develop/maintain system design guides by functional area;
  • Drive R&D efficiency and design simplification;
  • Identify and lead cross product synergies and value chain improvement projects for respective systems. 
  • Design sign off for all designs across system


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an accredited Engineering  curriculum
  • 5+ years Engineering experience

Top candidates will also have:

  • Experience with Caterpillar Engineering Systems and Processes
  • Experience with Caterpillar Structural Design, Manufacturing and VPD methodologies
  • Experience with Mining Products. 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven team leadership skills
  • Strong relationship skills; the ability to influence others is a necessity
