The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a General Manager of Transportation covering the Asia Pacific Region. In this role you will be responsible for developing, implementing and on-going management of a Transportation strategy in line with external benchmarks for more 4 Parts Distribution Warehouses, 30+ Caterpillar Manufacturing Plants, and all Asia Pacific Caterpillar Dealers. 





This is a senior level General Manager position within Transportation that provides strategic direction and leadership and has operational responsibility to guide engagement and deployment of Transportation services across Caterpillar business units throughout the Asia Pacific region. Accountable for day to day results in terms of quality, performance and cost, meeting or exceeding agreed upon KPI (key performance indicators), designing holistic transportation solutions for a complex network across all modes of conveyance (road, rail, parcel, ocean, air).


The position manages personnel located in multiple locations throughout the Asia Pacific Region in, Australia, China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand, including On Site Transportation representatives located at several Manufacturing Plants and Distribution Centers. Responsibilities also include operational oversight of multiple Transportation Load Planning Centers. 


A successful candidate must understand freight characteristics within and between Asia Pacific countries, as well as from Asia Pacific to other regions (Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East), key compliance points within Asia Pacific, understand Forwarder/Broker management, Free Trade Programs, Export Controls, Restricted Party screening, Country of Origin requirements, and duty regimes. 


Heavy interface with senior leaders, Plant Managers, Supply Chain Managers, Product Supply Managers, and Carriers required.


Financial Reporting - Ensure alignment with Transportation and customer Accounting / Business Resources teams. Provide monthly financial performance summaries to customers, variance reporting on service charges and freight cost. 


Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Provide accurate and timely reporting on KPIs, with root cause corrective action analysis reporting for metrics below target. 



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a Supply Chain or Transportation Management related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Transportation, Logistics or Supply Chain Management
  • 2+ years of experience in dynamic load planning including managing load planning centers using Transportation Management Systems such as JDA, Oracle OTM, or Mercury Gate
  • Previous experience with transportation cost drivers, supply chain management practices, building optimal networks, and the metrics required to successfully manage cost and performance of the network


Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to manage a large international and domestic staff, demonstrated success leading teams to deliver complex goals and projects and / or demonstrated success growing and executing logistics capabilities and /or leading and inspiring teams across multiple regions
  • Excellent interpersonal and commercial skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions
  • Previous experience in import and export controls
  • Customer relationship management training and experience
  • Lean, 6 Sigma, or other Continuous Improvement experience
  • APICS certification
  • Master’s degree in Supply Chain or Business Administration

 This position requires travel both internationally and domestically up to one week per month.
