The Product Support & Logistics Division currently has an opening for a Logistics & Supply Network Engineering Manager located in our Morton, IL facility.


JOB PURPOSE:  Accountable for developing and leading a team of logistic and supply chain engineers, network and transportation modelers, data scientists and solution managers to deliver supply chain solution design & implementations for Caterpillar Business Units enabling profitable growth. 

# Direct Reports:  8 to 10 Mgmt
# of Total Reports: 70 to 80 Mgmt, Salaried, Agency located in India, China, UK, France, US and Mexico. 


Recruit, develop and lead an industry leading technical team of logistics & supply chain experts focused on logistics & supply chain engineering, network & transportation modeling, supply chain analytics and logistics NPI.

Logistics & Supply Chain Engineering – Incumbent is responsible for leading engineering teams around the globe to design and implement solutions delivering lean and efficient material flow solutions focused on dock to point of use for Caterpillar manufacturing facilities and the manufacturing parts (MPN) facilities.  These solutions will include layout, material flow, material and equipment specifications, equipment procurement and installation leveraging logistics standards.  These teams are also responsible for developing & maintaining logistics standards, developing & enhancing a variety of design & planning tools and identifying, piloting, rolling out new material handling technology.  Incumbent will also work with business unit supply chain teams, the modeling/analytics team and other functional teams to identify supplier to point of use lowest total landed cost solutions (sourcing, order size, material flow path, etc.).

Modeling & Analytics – Incumbent is responsible for leading teams to perform a variety of modeling & analytics for business partners globally across Caterpillar, Caterpillar dealers and Caterpillar Suppliers.  These teams perform a variety of network design, inventory modeling and transportation modeling leveraging numerous tools including industry leading Llamasoft and JDA tools.  These India based teams are also responsible for monitoring and delivering high quality transportation milestone data for Caterpillar globally. 

Logistics NPI – Incumbent is responsible for leading 3 to 4 solution managers globally.  These managers lead multifunctional teams developing and implementing logistics solutions, typically leveraging the Logistics NPI process. 

This role leads efforts which require the ability to work effectively with business division leaders and governing committees comprised of diverse, multi-functional leaders. Incumbent is responsible for leading collaboration and communications across multiple business division functions, in order to effectively deploy lean material flow plans, which may include implementing changes to factory floor layout and point of use material presentation.

Incumbent works with facility Supply Chain Managers to deploy strategic supply chain initiatives and is required to take a business division view of supply chain planning processes and tools. This role requires thorough knowledge and experience with the deployment of pull material strategies and related software applications.  

This role requires advanced collaboration, communication and negotiation skills, as well as advanced business acumen to lead and support supply chain initiatives and deployments.

Incumbent provides leadership, coaching, focus, and motivation to direct reports and extended teams.  Incumbent is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of direct reports, including development, capability building and succession planning. 

Incumbent responsible for meeting or exceeding financial commitments.

Travel Required (25% to 30% working time)


Basic Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of supply chain or related experience
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university
  • Advanced knowledge of Caterpillar Production System (CPS) and lean supply chain principles, specifically those applied to pull replenishment using material replenishment tools and processes, material flow, packaging and containerization and throughput efficiency
  • Advanced understanding of supply chain planning processes and analytical tools
  • Knowledge of 6Sigma Project Management principles
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Bachelor degree related to Engineering or Supply Chain
  • Experience in inventory management and control, purchasing, parts distribution and/or supply chain/logistics operations
  • Experience in manufacturing operations or manufacturing engineering is highly desired
  • Experience in network and transportation modeling
  • Excellent leadership skills to effectively sponsor supply chain improvements making the best use of available resources, while maintaining strong people focus and fulfilling the responsibilities for leading people
  • Extremely strong collaborative, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to creatively solve very complex problems
  • Fluent English written and oral skills
  • Strong Business Acumen
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification
