Job Description


Caterpillar Defense currently has an opening for an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) located in Peoria, IL. In this role, you will provide administrative and programmatic support to the Facility Security Officer (FSO) to help ensure compliant and successful implementation of the physical, personal, and information security program protocols throughout Caterpillar Defense.  Provide support at various levels, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.  

Job Duties:

  • This role will serve as the AFSO; assisting the FSO with the overall security program to include creating, coordinating and implementing security policies and procedures pertaining to the safeguarding of classified and unclassified information according to the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) as applicable. 
  • This role is responsible for assisting with the personnel security clearance process to include initial request, fingerprints, indoctrination, reinvestigations and ongoing briefings.  Help in processing SARS (System Access Requests) for US Government systems to include validating appropriate clearance levels for access.
  • Responsibility for overseeing the badge access of employees to the Cat Defense area.  Ensure citizenship requirements are met for access to restricted areas and restricted share drives.  This role will work with the FSO to ensure contract compliance related to physical and information security; along with maintaining personnel security files accurately according to processes.
  • This role needs to be able to operate multiple security databases (ie. JPAS< SWFT, NISS, DISS).  This role will be responsible for conducting thorough research to answer questions to ensure accuracy of security operations and assist in supporting and ensuring compliance with contractual security requirements.
  • This role requires the ability to understand and interpret the Department of Defense (DoD) and company security policies and procedures, and complete required DoD courses related to government security within one (1) year of employment as well as continuing education requirements.
  • Must be able to juggle competing demands and prioritize work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic environment.



Basic Qualifications:

This role requires a minimum of an Associate Degree and two years of relevant work experience in a position with similar responsibilities, or five or more years of relevant experience in a position with similar responsibilities.  Must be a US citizen and have or be eligible to obtain an active Secret security clearance from the U.S. government.  Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
