Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) designs and manufactures diesel engines, ranging from 400 kilowatts to 16 megawatts of power, and key engine systems such as fuel, air, after treatment and cooling which are used to power oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machine applications around the world.

 

LPSD currently has an exciting opportunity as an Electrical Field Engineer located in Houston, Texas.  In this role, you will be responsible to provide technical service support to the field team and dealers. The position is also responsible for analyzing, tracking and working with respective departments in the Electric Power team to identify and resolve product issues.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Support Caterpillar Motoren (CM) product customer by direct contact and/or through the network of EPD parts and service distributors
  • Provide field expertise related to control, protection, monitoring and regulation systems such like SCADA, PLC, HMI, and other electrical and electronic equipment
  • Provide field expertise related to low voltage systems, including MCCs for engine and station auxiliaries, and medium voltage systems
  • Provide field expertise related to the load management systems, active and reactive load control, either in isolated power plant systems or utility tied power plant systems
  • Provide hands on field support during the electrical commissioning of CM product and BOP (balance of Plant) equipment
  • Prepare technical reports well documented of the commissioning and other field services related activities
  • Provide support to the EPD Contract Service Team to ensure the duties and responsibilities with the customer are fulfilled as per contractual agreement
  • Acts as the end point for customer disputes (short of legal action)
  • Collect engineering data, provide interpretation and support for CPI team
  • Takes responsibility for coordinating the day-to-day field service activities between engine dealers, field personnel and other departments
  • Ascertain within product issues considering  circumstances of the failure and commercial impact if the failure is not within warranty and policy guidelines in making decisions on repair work and/or product replacements
  • Provides product / procedure training and field support in serious cases where OEM is unable to address them - often where situations are commercially sensitive
  • Create Service letters, Product improvements Programs well as provide technical assistance and counseling to service group, other support groups in Liaise between the field and engineering, quality control and manufacturing department for product problems and initiate action and follow on resolution.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree or equal in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of CM product and service
  • Knowledge of application guidelines, failure analysis and ability to troubleshoot
  • Knowledge of EPD Service and Warranty system is essential
  • 10+ years of field experience at Power Plant Applications
  • Very good knowledge of the mechanical features and technical characteristics of engine products along with a thorough knowledge of company warranty and policy practices and procedures.
