This position is in the Metals and Thermal Processes section of Advanced Materials Technology, managing revisions and new releases of material specifications and manufacturing practices, as well as reviewing/dispositioning steel heats from Caterpillar steel mill suppliers. To support these requirements, AMT is submitting a Personnel Requisition for a SUPT-OTD-00039 - SG 14 Quality Assurance Analyst.
Job Description/ Responsibilities:
The incumbent would be assigned to the Advanced Materials Technology team located at Technical Center Building K. Specifically, the position manages revisions and new releases for over 1400 1E material specifications and manufacturing practices for AMT division. This includes coordination of 1E specification chemical management (REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, Prop 65) reviews for AMT-owned specifications. The job role also supports AMT's Steel Quality team through the review and disposition of steel heats from Caterpillar steel mill suppliers. Proactive and rapid engagement of steel suppliers regarding heat rejections is required to avoid line down situations and product quality, compliance, and safety concerns. This position requires knowledge of steel performance requirements, as well as an appreciation of how different elements of steel processing impact performance. The individual must be extremely knowledgeable about wrought steel governing specifications along with the individual specifications that form the steel portfolio. The individual must also know the various forms in which steel is purchased, the interrelationships of steel form, specification and manufacturing processes, such as heat treat and machining. Familiarity with the steel supply base – both mill and the steel distribution network – is extremely important. The individual in this job role will also be responsible for learning the New Mill Heat Steel Dispositioning system
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal are critical; the nature of the job requires mastery of the English language for clarity and accuracy in specifications/standards
Must have strong computer aptitude
Demonstrated knowledge of 1E material specifications and their layered structure as well as an ability to read and comprehend international standards related to materials and chemical regulations. A strong attention to detail is critical for all job activities.
Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of attributes in steel processing critical to quality
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Experience with steel mill heat database, including review and disposition of steel heats
Knowledge of the various forms in which steel is purchased, the interrelationships of steel form, specification and manufacturing processes, such as heat treat and machining
Familiarity with the steel supply base – both mill and the steel distribution network
