Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division's Engine Development Team in Mossville, IL is looking for a person to serve as engine and aftertreatment development engineer in our Power Systems Lab at the Technical Center. The successful candidate will act as an I-6 diesel performance engineer that is responsible for delivery of engine development programs, providing cost effective engine and aftertreatment performance calibrations for IPSD’s C9 through C18 machine and commercial product offerings.


This position collaborates with a number of highly engaged and technically capable team members, as well as managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously that are complex in nature which support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.


The key role of this engineering position is to move from learning and assisting others to fully contributing. This is the beginning of building deep expertise in one or multiple fields. Primary responsibilities will include developing engine systems efficiently with focus on optimizing engine performance and emissions. This role will provide an opportunity to grow into an end to end engine system development engineer. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Optimize engine and aftertreatment systems within requirements, hardware limits, and emissions regulations
  • Lead a team of engine development test engineers and lab support staff to plan & execute development plans
  • Translate technical requirements into detailed plan test plans, instrumentation requirements, and mitigation plans for test cell work as well as communicate results
  • Document performance and emissions results for regulations and conformance team for use in engine certification documentation
  • Work closely with project management team to maintain project plan, report out status, and meet deliverable dates
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to reduce inefficiency in design and test lab processes

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering plus relevant engineering experience 
  • 1-2 years of engine or aftertreatment development experience


Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Master's degree in (or higher) from an accredited Engineering curriculum
  • Expertise with GT-Power/Destiny 1-D thermodynamic Engine Simulation
  • The ability to work in- and enjoy working in- a dynamic environment; adapting to and driving change
  • Computer skills; the ability to use and the ability to learn engineering software packages
  • The ability to work/lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions 
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical skills and have an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
  • A self-starter with strong technical leadership skills who can communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group
