Function description

This position will support the execution of transportation flows of Caterpillar prime product to our dealers and customers in North, West and East Africa. This role will serve to improve total supply chain cost & time, improve visibility, increase domestic knowledge and ultimately, improve customer satisfaction

Key Job functions include but not limited to:

  • Ensures CAT prime product is shipped efficiently (Cost, Velocity, Quality) to North/West/East African dealers through supporting tactical and daily operational management of transportation operations
  • Become an expert in customs requirements of the countries served through discussion with dealers and freight forwarders and ensure perfect maintenance of the requirements in our systems to prevent any delays at the borders
  • Review and align with dealers’ expectations the ocean routes and carriers from the port of loading to the port of discharge and liaise with procurement to identify best players
  • Perform operational and performance review cycle with external and internal partners (dealers, ocean carrier, freight forwarders, origin transport lane manager) to improve supply chain visibility, velocity, cost and collaboration for the African regions in scope
  • Facilitate and support the end-to-end process of shipping a machine from Americas, Asia, Europe to North/West/East Africa by closely following up on each critical process step (e.g. documentation readiness and accuracy, ocean booking & trans-shipment point, machine readiness at the plant, inspection process at the port of loading, etc.)
  • Monitor transportation execution milestones closely with event and disruption management and take proactive actions to prevent potential delays of the machines
  • Measure, track and report performance metrics by using multiple IT systems & tools
  • Develop, implement and maintain standard operations procedures with various supply chain partners (ship sources, transport service providers and dealers)
  • Support continuous improvement projects to improve supply chain of machines coming from all around the world into Africa using 6 sigma and CPS principles.



Education:  Master’s degree or equivalent experience (professional experience in Logistics: 3-5 years). Knowledge of International transportation and manufacturing operations, supply chain management. Team player with good interpersonal skills necessary to interface with Cat dealers, numerous CAT supply chain partners (Procurement, Plants, Scheduling & Orders, Business support, Finance Rep’s, Velocity Rep’s, Industry Rep’s, Product Groups, origin transportation analyst) and external service providers. Available to business travel (estimated travel 20%). Problem-solving skills with respect to systems and correct procedural inaccuracies. Have strong analytic capabilities, very good communication skills - both written and verbal in English and French, Dutch is an asset - and excellent active listening skills.
