Job Duty:


As a Technical Sales Engineer, you have profound knowledge in energy conversion processes and plant/application engineering for medium-speed engines solutions. Together with the Caterpillar sales team and Caterpillar dealers you are responsible to identify the best technical and commercial solution for our customers. This position reports to the Technical Sales Manager for medium-speed engines.


Individuals in the Technical Sales Engineer position are responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

Lead the creation of technical customer solutions in cooperation with Caterpillar sales teams and Caterpillar dealers. This essentially includes:
  • Review customer tender documents (“Tender Review”) and identify critical technical requirements for Caterpillar
  • Single point of contact for all technical project related customer requests
  • Definition of system configuration
  • Outline technical specifications for customer sales contracts
    • Scope of supply matrix
    • Detailed technical specification
    • Performance report at site conditions
    • Heat balance
    • Design criteria
    • Engineering deliverables
    • System layout
  • Support defining and verification of technical and purchasing specifications for requested scope of supply to identify cost for contractual margin calculation purposes
  • Presentation and negotiation of the developed technical solution with customer
  • Comprehensive project handover to the project management, after successful conclusion of the contract

Create and lead general technical presentations to promote Caterpillar solutions bringing added value to our customers.

Continuous learning about upcoming medium-speed engine technologies and how these technologies serve future customer needs.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical discipline or equivalent
  • The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a technical sales environment
  • This requires the ability to listen, comprehend, communicate effectively and solve challenges across many technical disciplines. A high level of intercultural understanding and customer focus is required, as well as a very high degree of self-responsible work and resilience
  • The candidate needs to show deep entrepreneur skills. Experience in commercial evaluation and basic sales contract knowledge are desirable
  • The incumbent needs show strong team and communication skills, with experiences in manage interdisciplinary projects and teams, preferably Black Belt education
  • Excellent English language skills and very good German knowledge are required
  • Willingness to travel internationally, about 20% - 25% per year
  • Location: Kiel, Germany (no ISE assignment)
