Job Description


Job duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

This position involves setting up and running large (2.5 to 6 meter) CNC vertical turning centers to produce equipment used in the mining industry. Tasks will include machine setup, part alignment, finish machining, and inspecting work to ensure it meets the print specifications. The position may also require use of jib or overhead crane to manually position work pieces.

You will be responsible for performing very close tolerance operations such as boring, taper boring, facing, turning, chamfering, etc. on parts such as gears, drums, and weldments.



Basic Qualifications: 

  • 1-3 years of experience in setup, operating, and programming CNC vertical turning centers

  • Experience with CNC programming and G-code formats, including creating and editing programs.

  • Experience with using live tooling to drill, tap, bore, chamfer, and mill

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Skilled and experienced with gaging, indicating, and measuring techniques, including verniers and micrometers.


Top Candidates Will Also Have: 


  • Experience with 5 axis programming

  • Experience in a high mix, low volume shop with frequent part changeover

  • Understanding of Siemens 840D controller

  • Understanding of on-machine touch probes

  • Ability to demonstrate basic machine shop math, including high school trigonometry.

  • Ability to demonstrate basic machine shop practices.

  • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of machining terminology and procedures.

  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work overtime to support production demands.


Additional Information:

This position is located at the Caterpillar manufacturing facility located in South Milwaukee, WI and is part of Caterpillar's Surface Mining & Technology Division. This 3rd shift position starts at $25.64 with incremental increases at 12 months of active work until reach $27.78 plus shift premium of $0.80 and includes immediate benefits, such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a matching Tax-Deferred Savings Plan. No relocation assistance is available.
