As a Senior Manager (internally titled Manager II) in the U.S. International Tax group, you will be responsible for U.S. tax planning and analysis related to Caterpillar’s non-U.S. subsidiaries. The position is part of a planning team that works with business partners within and outside the Global Tax department in providing U.S. tax advice and solutions for complex projects and/or initiatives.
The Deerfield or Peoria, IL based position will have in depth knowledge of U.S. international tax principles, including Subpart F, GILTI, Sec 959 ordering, and Sec 861 apportionment. The role is responsible for providing expert tax advice to business partners, analyzing and implementing planning strategies, and reviewing material U.S. international compliance positions and/or legal entity inclusions.
This position provides in-depth knowledge on U.S. international tax matters for companies within the Caterpillar enterprise. Primary areas of focus will include planning, repatriation, and advising businesses and regional tax teams on U.S. international tax impacts of transactions. The individual will act as a lead or technical advisor on planning projects and improvements of tax processes, especially related to the impact of U.S. tax reform.
The candidate will lead and advise on projects involving complex issues or problems, which require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique, and solutions may require original approaches. The individual sponsors projects which may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions.
Main components of the position:
Audit Activity – Provides strategic tax advice and guidance to develop documentation and arguments for tax audits and appeals as needed. Develops responses to IRS inquiries on complex topics and analyzes technical positions in IRS audit examinations.
Risk Management – Works with counterparts to guide the development, maintenance and updating of control procedures and policies related to U.S. international tax positions.
Mergers and Acquisitions – Provides tax advice regarding organizational and operational structures including implementation, integration, and post-acquisition/divestiture consulting.
This position works closely with other groups in the Global Tax organization, including but not limited to the Center of Excellence, Regional Tax, and Transfer Pricing teams.
Limited travel required (Less than 15% of working time).
