Growth of aftermarket services along with digital strategies leveraging IOT and other technological advancements is creating demand for talent with new skillsets and experiences. While the company has a strong legacy of promoting from within and will continue to cultivate talent to rise to the highest levels, the appetite for external talent is growing year over year.

As a Global Learning Solutions Leader (titled internally as Manager), you will be responsible for leading a team of learning professionals and building a learning ecosystem for 107,000+ employees.   Partnering with our business and HR leaders to establish the organization’s learning goals align with business outcomes, define development objectives to achieve these goals and build methods to deliver on them. You will introduce world-class business processes for learning and guide your team to offer learning infrastructure and solutions accessible across the company.  Additionally, you will be responsible for defining the future of L&D technology and setting direction with Caterpillar leaders as our organization shifts to a Workday HCM environment and digitizes the way employees work.  You will help to establish a growth culture by providing our leaders easy-to-use resources for developing their teams and delivering a more effective learning experience for their employees.  In this role, you will guide the wider Caterpillar learning and development community into a modern learning environment and have the opportunity to serve as a key thought leader for the organization.

Reporting to the Global Employee Development Leader are the Learning Manager, the Values & Compliance Manager, a Senior Organizational Development Consultant and four Organizational Development Consultants. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

• Partnering with our business and HR leaders to establish the organization’s learning goals aligned with business outcomes, define development objectives to achieve these goals and build methods to deliver on them

• Accountable for building the skills and consultative capability of the learning and development community, as they serve business unit and corporate teams

• Responsible for sharing learning outcome metrics and their business impact to the organization

• Building capabilities in the global workforce and in the learning and development community

• Creating and executing a roadmap for learning technology

• Aligning learning technology investments to overall HR technology plans

• Consulting with HR directors in the business and their learning consultants to identify ongoing needs 

• Setting a process for the L&D community to plan for ongoing learning demand 

• Managing vendors relationships for learning and development content, technology and delivery

• Responsible for procuring and/or instructing others in designing course content to a quality standard 

• Establishing processes for development consultants to design role-based learning and development plans

• Working across the HR operating model to ensure governance of L&D metrics

• Overseeing policies for tuition assistance programs

• Managing university relationships for corporate learning

• Developing methods for measuring and communicating learning impact with metrics and analytics



Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred

• Minimum 10+ years of experience designing and developing learning

• Minimum 5+ years of management/supervisory experience in a team-based environment, including responsibility for performance management of others

• People/Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage regional/virtual team of resources from diverse countries/cultures in varying time zones, being sensitive to cultural and business differences

• Program Management: Ability to oversee and manage complex, strategic, global and local initiatives

• Relationship Building: Ability to collaborate with other teams to support business needs. Demonstrate excellent business acumen and uses good judgment in decision making

• Display the ability to handle conflict and manage interpersonal relationships with empathy

• Demonstrate the written and oral communication skills to connect with individuals at all organizational levels

• Demonstrate curiosity and capacity for learning

• Show ability to develop teams for high performance and build a deep bench of talent

• Able to write business cases, use facts and data to influence decision makers

• Coach and manage performance of team and ensure execution of work

• Seek an understanding of L&D industry information and stay current with new approaches

• Build an effective internal and external network of L&D professionals and providers

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in high pressure situations

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• Learning Management System experience (Workday HCM and Saba preferred)

• Demonstrated ability to provide creative and non-traditional solutions to OD and HR challenges
