JOB SUMMARY: Direct Information Services personnel responsible for computer support, development and/pr implementation. Assigned area may involve infrastructure components or customer application systems that relate to mainframe, networking, personal computer, server, distributed computing and/or internet technologies of the Financial Products Division (FPD) and its subsidiaries.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A wide variety of responsibilities may exist within the various IS units. Responsibilities vary, but may include one or more of the following duties:
Assures the availability, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of FPD, and its subsidiaries’, assigned infrastructure and application systems. Provides guidance and reviews results to ensure customer quality needs are met. Evaluates current data processing technologies, the evolving application needs of the financial services industry and users, and the capabilities of the computer equipment. Contributes to the resolution of complex problems and systems challenges that involve careful interpretation, analysis and diagnosis. Assesses the risks and benefits of new technology in relation to the performance and reliability requirements of FPD's business functions.
Participates with the manager in evaluating priorities of technology projects. Assigns projects to subordinate managers and staff members, provides direction and guidance for the project's content and execution, monitors status of such projects, and periodically reports progress to management. Reviews employees' work to ensure quality standards are met.
Reviews proposed project plans and forecasts needed headcount and budgets. Works with manager to incorporate these projections into the overall unit budget and makes appropriate adjustments. Approves invoices, manages vendor expenses and distributes actual costs to business units.
Participates in the selection of personnel and ensures that employees are properly educated in technical, application and equipment subjects. Counsels the staff in career planning and development. Responsible for the motivation of staff to meet objectives, formal performance evaluation of staff and is accountable for accomplishment of group objectives.
Ensures that assigned systems and applications are functioning properly. In the event of a malfunction, ensures that the problem is handled in an efficient manner. Continually assists in the development of hardware and/or software upgrades to meet employee as well as company needs.
Participates in accomplishment of continuous improvement objectives for the department. Progress toward accomplishment of these is measured through maintenance of necessary measurements and analysis of associated data. Participates in the identification of problem areas and development of resolutions to address them.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrated knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply math computation skills including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as statistics and other mathematical concepts used in modeling.
Thorough knowledge of procedures and operations of the functional business areas.
Thorough knowledge of data processing philosophies and techniques.
Demonstrated ability to identify systems deficiencies and recommend and develop new software/programs to correct the deficiencies.
Advanced knowledge of computer operating systems and equipment capabilities.
Advanced knowledge of computer software and how to implement such software.
Ability to train and advise employees on the use of computers and software packages.
Advanced knowledge of computer and telecommunication hardware and operating software.
Thorough knowledge of quality assurance methodology, techniques and practices.
Diagnostic and analytical ability along with proven managerial and leadership skills.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A 4-year college or university degree in any of the business disciplines, and a minimum of 7 years exempt experience in, and a thorough knowledge of information services is recommended. Experience in support and development methodologies, business planning, project management and customer application needs is recommended. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
