The Industrial Power Systems Division currently has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer II in Schertz, TX. As an experienced Manufacturing Engineer II at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated machines. Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in product manufacturing.    

 

As an experienced Manufacturing Engineer at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated machines

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Lead a mixed team of salaried and hourly employees to develop, analyze and manage manufacturing and assembly projects.

  • Administer the assembly and process development of New Product Introduction (NPI) for pilot builds throughout the machining process

  • Develop, analyzing and managing machining process.

  • Lead team in FMEA evaluation and mitigation actions including IPV implementation.

  • Engaging in creative problem solving to address operational issues including: ergonomic, safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, and quality concerns

  • Define and optimize assembly / machining process steps and standard work

  • Develop and establish cost estimates, project options, and design alternatives.

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage capital projects to ensure efficient and cost-effective systems and processes are implemented to produce quality products.

  • Support concurrent design engineering efforts for new product and service applications by reviewing conceptual designs and making recommendations for design implementation.

  • Develop and communicate goals and strategies to support efforts on development projects (5S, continuous improvement, cycle-time reduction) to improve operations that create the most efficient work flow solutions.

  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities impacting assembly, gateway metrics, audit validation, ISO requirements and root cause analysis.

  • Responsible for conforming product via CNC machining according technical drawing, otherwise responsible for CNC program develop and optimize, cutters parameter selection and CNC equipment problem solving for process continues optimization.

  • Independently using FANUC or SIEMENS programming language to make and modify CNC milling programs

  • Solve parts machining defect and CNC working abnormal.

  • Monitor process and equipment capabilities and develop strategy to improve and reduce process variability.

  • Capable of analyzing and solving a broad range of technical problems as related to the manufacturing process. 

  • Assisting in developing department capital and expense budgets as well as the development of capital projects.

  • Administering the assembly New Product Introduction (NPI) process to ensure that engineering drawings (Machining & Assembly) are released and processed on time for the NPI build.

  • Training team members on process improvements and process changes.

  • Working with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to ensure efficient and cost-effective systems and processes to produce quality products.

  • Coordinating the corporate manufacturing and machining space utilization and assisting in preparation of business proposals for rearrangements or additions.

  • Coordinating the purchase and application of machine tools, controls and related equipment corporate wide to ensure the latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations

  • Designing jigs and fixtures.

  • Willing to work overtime or weekends as required.

Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Engineering related discipline

  • Minimum of 3 years Manufacturing Engineering related experience.

  • Analytical skills with regard to Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance as it related to, form fit, and function.

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts related to, part flow, tooling, documentation/design control, statistical.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work and train a diverse group of employees and customers.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives while meeting technical, financial and schedule objectives.

 

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience in applying Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Experience with machining of cylinder heads or engine blocks.

  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling, using AutoCAD/Autodesk Inventor, Solid works or Pro-E (Creo)

  • 5 years’ experience working in production metal cutting processes.

  • 3 years G&M Code CNC programming in conjunction with Fanuc or Siemens controls.

  • Experience in work holding and cutting tool design.

  • Database and Minitab experience.

  • Prior experience working in and with various manufacturing roles such as quality control, maintenance and operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Data Analysis skills.

  • Project Management experience, or 6 sigma green belt certification.
