The Industrial Powers Systems Division currently has openings for Manufacturing Engineers located in San Antonio, Texas


The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with operations and support departments as well as with external suppliers to enhance machining and assembly processes.  All related work will have a positive impact on the prescribed People, Quality, Velocity, and Cost metrics.  Focused emphasis on perfecting manufacturing processes through improvement projects.  The manufacturing engineer will provide support related to the production of Caterpillar Diesel Engines and will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to meet customer and company demands. Work is performed in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment. Work requires possible exposure to all temperature changes, high noise levels, working around moving equipment, electrical hazards, tanks, heights, fumes, chemicals, vibrations, dust, etc.  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.




  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, CMM reports, csv files, and GD&T

  • Read and interpret part & assembly drawings along with all applicable specifications and standards

  • Create and maintain AutoCAD part process, part fixture and tool drawings

  • Create, edit, test and troubleshoot CNC machining programming sequences

  • Create and maintain standard work instructions and operating procedures

  • Create and maintain standard applicable process routings for required machining processes

  • Create and maintain safety and process FMEAs related to manufacturing methods

  • Perform and manage tool testing and troubleshooting to ensure quality control tooling of practices and procedures
  • Setup applicable part handling and lifting devices to load parts into CNC machines and assembly equipment

  • Assist in Built in Quality (BIQ) and Quality issue tracking and resolution related to production processes
  • All other duties as assigned 



Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or related field) from an accredited college or university

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts; and

  • Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Minimum two years of experience in manufacturing

  • 3 plus years prior CNC machining experience and knowledge of metal cutting

  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with producing various forms of communications (reports, charts, graphs, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of materials science (material properties, metallurgy, etc.)

  • Experience reading engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, blue prints & training on GD&T

  • Experience and/or training in CNC machine programming and editing

  • Experience reading and interpreting CMM reports and csv files

  • Experience managing large capital projects through all phases of project life cycle

  • Knowledge on assembly planning, time standards, visuals and standard work

  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD drawings (i.e. Autodesk)

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling (i.e., Inventor, ProE, Creo, or Solidworks)

  • Understanding of diesel engine assembly and process development

  • Proactive and inquisitive individual who seeks improvements beyond assigned tasks

  • Customer oriented team member who can build strong relationships with various stakeholders

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or equivalent
