Job Description

The Caterpillar Strategy and Corporate Development team is currently seeking to hire a Director of Corporate Development (M&A) located in Deerfield, Illinois.

The Strategic Investments group consists of Strategy, Corporate Development (M&A), and Venture Capital teams that lead all of Caterpillar’s transactions in addition to serving as an internal trusted advisor on a variety of high impact strategic and commercial projects.  The Corporate Development team is aligned by industry with Directors responsible for specific Divisions or Segments and is supported by a pool of Finance Analysts.

This position requires a background in all aspects of M&A including strategic planning, financial analysis, due diligence, transaction structuring, and agreement negotiation.  Demonstrated project management skills, ideally managing projects with both internal and external stakeholders is highly desired.  Strong analytical, technical, project management, and leadership skills are required.  Directors execute the majority of their own transactions without support from external investment bankers, therefore deep, hands-on transaction execution experience is critical (ideally including cross-border).  Lastly, a strong executive presence, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and comfort with an external facing role is also required given the Director’s interaction with target companies, external advisors, and Caterpillar senior executives.

This role reports to the Global Head of Strategy and Corporate Development.  Relocation assistance may be considered on a case-by-case basis for the ideal candidate.  Should the employee desire, the Director role also provides future flexibility to explore career tracks at Caterpillar outside of M&A.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of total work experience including at least 5+ years (post Analyst) investment banking, private equity, and/or corporate M&A experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field

 Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  •  Industry coverage/transaction experience in Caterpillar related sectors
  • International M&A experience
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and/or CPA, CMA, or CFA
  • Track-record of outstanding academic and professional achievement
Additional Information:
  •   This position requires approximately 25% travel (+/- project dependent)

Caterpillar is not currently hiring individuals for this position who now or in the future require sponsorship for employment based non-immigrant and immigrant visas. However, as a global company, Caterpillar offers many job opportunities outside of the U.S. which can be found through our employment website
