Analytics Professionals are the data driven, business professionals using quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems for internal business partners and external Caterpillar customers.
As a Machine Data Analytics Intern, you will be immersed in our business and introduced to our analytics tools and techniques, enabling you to provide data driven insights that drive daily business decisions.
In some cases, you will be involved in developing new analytics tool customized for Caterpillar applications. Typical problems include creating new ways of visualizing machine sensor-based data; connecting data back to the design and validation process through the use of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems; segmenting machine application profiles to better understand operator’s behavior; extracting key performance metrics from large numbers of machine running in real world applications; data quality investigation ensure accurate results.

Apply Machine Learning to time-series machine data sets
Exploring new IIoT devices and sensors
Supporting internal and external data visualization dashboards
This position combines a part-time internship during the school year with an opportunity for a full-time internship with a Caterpillar product group during summer 2019.

Applicants must have completed or be pursuing an BS undergraduate, or MBA, MS or PhD degree in Actuarial Science, Applied Statistics, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Engineering (various), Computer Science, Computer Science + X, Economics, Informatics, Information Systems Management, Marketing Analytics, Mathematics, MBA with Technical Undergrad, Operations Research, Predictive Analytics, Quantitative & Computational Finance, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, or equivalent.
Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 scale (no rounding)
