The Industrial Power Systems Division currently has openings for a Buyer located in Lafayette, IN. As a Buyer with Caterpillar, you will provide purchasing solutions expertise, using Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management to deliver maximum value.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


  • Serve as the primary contact between Caterpillar and the supply base for global/regional initiatives providing support to various business units
  • Accountable for the complete commercial relationship with the supply based including cost competitiveness and supplier shipping and quality performance
  • Responsible for all commercial discussions/negotiations with the supply base
  • Responsible and accountable for development, and/or communication and implementation of a local or regional sourcing strategy
  • Responsible for, where applicable, developing, managing, and executing contractual agreements for the accountable supply base ensuring business proposal completeness and proper risk assessment.
  • Demonstrate leadership in developing and executing all aspects of OPACC optimization including cost and inventory reductions, quality improvement, and design related opportunities.
  • Provide leadership for sourcing, logistics and resource management decisions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, new source introduction (NSI), and new product introduction (NPI) activities ensuring consensus from business partners
  • Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree from a college or university
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, and reaching consensus on specific actions
  • Demonstrated functional leadership including at least 3 years managing suppliers and/or creating strategic sourcing plans
  • Capable of leading teams, suppliers and customers to effective solutions.
  • Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skills
  • Effective communicator, in written and oral form. Fluent in the English language and preferred other languages.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Caterpillar and our suppliers.
  • Must be able to Travel 25% of time around Midwest


 


Top Candidates Will Also Have:                                               

  • Experience is required in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering
  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management a plus
  • Effective communicator in written and oral form
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience either formal or through influencing key stakeholders
  • Effective program management experience


Relocation is not available for this position
