We are growing our core digital cloud development team at Caterpillar!   This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate team of cloud developers to build new capabilities that deliver revenue and improve the customer satisfaction of our customers.  

 

We are looking for a full-time, in-house developer to design and build new features while looking for innovative ways to differentiate our solution to better compete in the marketplace and drive incremental value for Caterpillar.

The Software Developer role designs & develops new features & functionalities and mentors junior developers to ensure coding standards and quality are met.  This role will have an opportunity to work with business & product owners to better understand requirements and collaborate closely other developers to create cross-platform experience using APIs as needed.  As part of ongoing maintenance and site reliability, this role will also troubleshoot and analyze complex problems related to performance, availability & site reliability of a highly available, mission critical, global solution  to ensure service level commitments are met. This individual must be proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator (written and verbally).

 

JOB PURPOSE: Provides application and technical leadership to a worldwide team of developers for a customer facing cloud based application that directly drives parts and service revenue for Caterpillar.  You will provide direct support as well as technical leadership to less experienced analysts in design, development, testing, and integration of this application.


JOB DUTIES: This position reports to an IT Manager and you will be the lead developer for this application.  Your duties will include the following: 

 

  1. Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.
  2. Acts as team leader for development and support groups; provides programming and application/technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members.
  3. Works directly on complex application problems identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls.
  4. Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.
  5. Develops major system modules, programs or integrates infrastructure components based on requirements gathered from customers.
  6. Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.
  7. Fully knowledgeable of the relevant programming languages, program design and specification development, programming logic, logic diagrams, system analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design, storage and internal systems and cross platform infrastructure components; can provide training on these topics for others.
  8. Performs implementation and integration tasks for medium to large, complex in-house developed systems and/or purchased software solutions.
  9. Assists customers with documentation, training and usability efforts.
  10. Integrates processes across functional organizations.

 The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others.  Based on past experiences and knowledge, the incumbent normally works independently with minimal management input and review of end results.


Typical customers include Caterpillar customers , dealers, and other external companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar.  The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The position participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.

Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university OR 5 plus years of job-related work experience.
  • 3+ years of .NET experience
  • 3+ years of leadership
  • 3+ years of IT design

 

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • 2+ years of Azure or AWS experience
  • Requires a relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience.
  • The incumbent should be knowledgeable of the relevant programming languages; computing hardware and software; infrastructure elements, and current development processes and tools.
  • Six to ten years in development and support work related to systems or infrastructure is common.
  • In addition, the incumbent should have a good knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar’s organization.
